Private Free Range Hunting Blocks

Blue Mountain Station has three separate hunting blocks available over the 2025 roar. The blocks offer exclusive access to 100% privately owned hunting land. This self guided hunt provides avid hunters an opportunity to take free range, truly wild Red Stags in the peak of the season without competition from other hunters.
Hunting blocks range from 1500ha to 3446ha of hunting ground holding a good number of free-range red deer. All blocks have extensive tracks that are suitable for walking. This deal includes one trophy animal per hunter, one meat animal per hunter, all small game and 4 nights’ accommodation.

How does it work?

The hunting party is welcome to arrive anytime after 9am on the first day. After arrival at Blue Mountain Station, all guests will be inducted to the farm. A pre hunting meeting will take place at the main homestead to explain the boundaries of your hunting block, maps, hunting intel, accommodation and a Q&A. Hunters will be assigned a GPS locator/Personal Locator Beacon.

After the pre hunting meeting you will be taken to your accommodation and shown around.  At 12pm on the first day hunters can begin actively hunting. This hunting period will go through until 12pm on the last day of your hunt (Day 6)

Simple Itinerary

Day 1

  • Arrival at Blue Mountain Station anytime after 9am.
  • Pre Hunt Meeting at the Homestead
  • Go to your accommodation or camp to set up. 
  • Hunting opens at 12pm on the 1 day

Day 2 - Day 5

  • These days are your main hunting days. From Day 1 at 12pm to Day 6 at 12pm

Day 5

  • Hunting finishes at 12pm
  • 2pm collection from the accommodation or drive yourself back to the main homestead (if you bring your own vehicle)
  • Drop off to Timaru or Christchurch Airport 

What's Not Included

  • Hunting clothing or equipment
  • Gun hire or ammunition 
  • Meals, drinks or snacks.
  • Collection/Drop off from Timaru or Christchurch Airport
  • Accommodation for the night before or night after hunt. Accommodation maybe available at Blue Mountain Station. Pre-booking is essential. 
  • Head skinning, tanning, delivery or any other costs associated with taxidermy

Block Information

The 3 blocks available are named - East Block, West Block and South Block. Each block is described on their own pages (please click on the link above). Each block has a limit of two hunting parties per Roar Season. This is to prevent hunting pressure. 

ROAR RULES

  • First come – first served. First group to book will have their pick of the hunting blocks.
  • All hunters must have a current gun license or hunting permit.
  • All hunters are required to always carry a GPS locator/Personal Locator Beacon.
  • All hunters must stay within their permitted hunting block.
  • All animals are to be recovered.
  • Injured unclaimed animals must be reported – assistance to recover animal maybe provided.
  • Check in time in 12pm on your first day. Check out time in 12pm on your last day.
  • One Trophy animal and one meat animal per hunter. Additional animals will be charge accordingly.
  • Hunters must wear hunter orange whilst hunting.
  • All fees must be paid in full by the end of the trip.
  • 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your roar date.
  • All blocks require a good amount of fitness to hunt effectively.
